Rick (I knew him as Ricky) was a good friend dating back to elementary school and through high school. We occasionally got together in the ensuing years. He was quick to laugh or to make others laugh. I don't think he had a mean bone in his body. I recall a story about him and our 5th grade teacher. Honestly, she was mean and physical with kids, particularly Ricky and his friend, Paul Matelsky. She did not deserve compassion from anyone who had been her student, but when there was a Canterbury reunion long after she had retired, Rick went and picked her up from the nursing home where she lived and took her to the reunion. He was such a kind, good man! Perhaps this cold spell is the result of losing such a warm person!
