We are very sad to share news that one of our founding members, Michael Horwitz, died suddenly this week from a natural cardiac event. He was home at the time in Alpharetta. He is survived by a daughter and son.
Michael owned and operated the former Alpha Bikes shop in downtown Alpharetta for seven years, and that is where we had our first Bike Alpharetta meeting in 2010!
He helped us with the Georgia Rides to the Capitol event (one in 2013 was frigid), many years at Bikes for Kids, and held an annual Alpha Roubaix gravel ride on the same day as the epic Paris-Roubaix pro race in Europe.
Michael was a regular on the Cyclepaths Gravel club rides in recent years and they plan to honor him with a special ride SUNDAY, July 21, Dirty Sheets route at 8:30am. Start is at 6495 Rico Rd, Palmetto, GA 30268-2062. Info at Cyclepaths Gravel page on FB.
